Setup & protection

Where does RiffBlock work?

RiffBlock protects websites in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The presented test build targets iOS and iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 or later. It does not filter other native apps. A public download has not been announced.

How do I enable protection in a test build?

Follow RiffBlock’s setup assistant and enable the intended content blockers in your device’s Safari settings. Additional features use an optional Safari extension with its own website permissions. Exact setting names depend on the operating-system version; the assistant checks the effect of the three native filters on an allowed test page.

Does the main app need to stay open?

Native Safari content blockers work while the main app is closed. Additional dynamic features require the Safari extension to be enabled with suitable website permissions. A switch in the app alone does not confirm that Safari is applying protection.

Websites & filters

A website has stopped working. What can I do?

Open the RiffBlock popup in Safari, relax protection for that website or pause it there, then reload the page. You can undo custom selection rules. Returning to the default helps isolate changes. Note which adjustment makes the website usable again.

Why do I still see ads or video ads?

Websites and advertising methods change. Filter lists and dynamic detection cannot remove every ad. Advertising inserted into a video stream may remain. Covering or muting supported ad breaks does not shorten their waiting time.

How do I choose additional language filters?

Selection can follow device languages or be extended manually. Additional packs cover German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch. Choose packs relevant to the website; language selection stays on your device.

Do filter updates need an internet connection?

Native rules already loaded can continue working in Safari. Getting new filter versions requires a connection to public filter sources. Updating rules is separate from enabling the content blockers and optional extension.

Local data & support

Are browsing history or issue reports sent to RIFFSOURCE?

The current build does not transmit language selection or visited websites to RIFFSOURCE. Issue reports you create stay local; there is no connected public reporting service. Public filter providers receive the network data needed for filter downloads. If you request support by email, you transmit the information and attachments you choose to include.

How do I back up settings or report a broken website?

Use the local backup for settings, language selection, exceptions and repairs. Start a support request with the affected domain, a description, version and active filters. Remove personal query parameters, account details and private content from links and screenshots. A local issue report is not sent automatically.
